The Guetting progression

As you very well know, a progression in itself never can produce a superiority in general over the wheel, even if it is finely constructed. It can never change a negative expectancy game into a profitable one in the long term. There may be some exceptions necessitating a very high bankroll, but therefore these are not useable for the mayority of players.

The Guetting Progression is most effectful in connection with a good tendency march. This progression was developed by the French system player Charles Guetting, who achieved a remarkable fortune during his many years in Monte Carlo.

Charles Guetting played exclusively Trente-et-Quarante, however his progression might as well be applied on even money bets on the roulette.

The Guetting Progression is a four stage gain progression:

  units units units units
1. stage 1
2. stage   1.5 ; 2 ; 3
3. stage     4 ; 6 ; 8
4. stage       10 ; 15 ; 20

After two consecutive won bets in one stage the progression moves on to the next higher unit bet in that stage:

bet 1 plus +1 +1 stage 1
bet 2 plus +1 +2 stage 1
bet 3 plus +1.5 +3.5 stage 2
bet 4 plus +1.5 +5 stage 2
bet 5 plus +2 +7 stage 2
bet 6 plus +2 +9 stage 2
bet 7 plus +3 +12 stage 2
bet 8 plus +3 +15 stage 2
bet 9 plus +4 +19 stage 3
bet 10 plus +4 +23 stage 3
bet 11 plus +6 +29 stage 3
bet 12 plus +6 +35 stage 3
bet 13 plus +8 +43 stage 3
bet 14 plus +8 +51 stage 3
bet 15 plus +10 +61 stage 4
bet 16 plus +10 +71 stage 4
bet 17 plus +15 +86 stage 4
bet 18 plus +15 +101 stage 4
bet 19 plus +20 +121 stage 4
bet 20 plus +20 +141 stage 4

After the loss of a bet, the Guetting Progrssion steps down to the first unit size in the next lower stage, therefore down to 4, 1.5 or 1, depending, in which stage the bet was lost.

This loss can occur:

  • if immediately after two consecutive won bets the next higher bet is lost
  • if 2 consecutive losses appear.
